A few weeks later, there was a series of massive protests that broke out across several campuses and cities around the country. The one on Liam's campus had some bad actors that turned the otherwise peaceful protest into a riot and several campus structures were indiscriminately set on fire. One of them is the Genetics Department building. The protest had nothing to due with genetics research, but the damage was all the same; years of research and specialized one-of-a-kind equipment gone in flames. Liam was horrified to learn the research into the procedure used to transform him had been set back years, and it would be years, if not a decade or more, before they felt confident they could change him back.
Years passed and the University reached out and said they were ready to transform Liam back. However, in that time, "Leslie" had graduated, started a career, and had a loving relationship that led to marriage, and she was pregnant with her and her husband's first child. Naturally, she refused the treatment.
